Wide Oak Boards 240mm Unfinished — 350 m² Residential Project Dublin, Ireland |
← |

350 m² of wide engineered oak boards (15x240x1800–2400mm, Select grade, sanded unfinished) supplied to a luxury residential project in Dublin, Ireland. Manufactured by PerfektoWood in Lithuania and supplied direct to the project site — unfinished, for on-site sanding and coating after installation.
The scale of this project — 350 m² across a single residential interior — made on-site coating the right specification choice. At this area, the seamless quality achievable through on-site finishing is clearly visible: the entire floor surface is unified as one continuous plane, with no board-edge variation that can appear on factory-finished wide boards across large open areas.

The client specified unfinished engineered oak boards for on-site lacquering with Bona Traffic — a professional-grade, two-component water-based lacquer widely used in high-traffic residential and commercial interiors. Bona Traffic is applied after installation and on-site sanding, producing a hard, durable surface finish that protects the full 350 m² floor area.
On-site lacquering with Bona Traffic was chosen for two practical reasons specific to this project. First, the entire floor is sanded and lacquered as one continuous surface after installation — producing a completely seamless result across 350 m² without board-edge variation. Second, Bona Traffic provides a harder and more durable finish than factory-applied oil, better suited to the high-traffic demands of a large residential interior in Dublin.
Unfinished engineered oak from PerfektoWood is suitable for on-site finishing with Bona Traffic and other professional lacquer and oil systems. The sanded surface is prepared for finishing at the factory — no additional surface preparation is required before on-site application.
Wide board formats require a thicker engineered base for dimensional stability. The Dublin boards use 3+12 birch plywood construction: a 3mm European oak wear layer bonded to a 12mm birch plywood base, giving 15mm total thickness.
The 12mm birch plywood base — compared to the 9mm birch plywood base used for narrower boards — provides significantly greater resistance to cupping and movement across the wider board surface. This is important both during installation and in long-term use, particularly in a large residential interior where floor movement would be visible across the full 350 m² area.

Select grade was specified for this project for a straightforward reason: on 350 m² of continuous floor, consistency matters more than on smaller areas. In a large open-plan space, the eye moves across the entire floor at once — any inconsistency in colour, grain or character between boards is immediately visible.
Select grade provides minimal knots, consistent colour across all boards and clean appearance — the specification that ensures the floor reads as a unified surface rather than a collection of individually varying boards. For a luxury residential project in Dublin, this was the appropriate grade specification.

The client wanted unfinished boards for on-site lacquering with Bona Traffic — a professional two-component water-based lacquer. At 350 m², on-site lacquering produces a completely seamless surface across the full floor area, and Bona Traffic provides a harder, more durable finish than factory-applied oil.
